#AtoZChallenge - Being Young and Proverbs 31

Young - having the appearance, freshness or vigor of youth.

26.  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

In the New Testament of the Bible, Matthew 15:11, Jesus said, "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."  If  I were to spend years eating unhealthy foods and consuming unhealthy amounts of alcohol and tobacco, well...that's going to take a toll on my physical well-being.  But if I gossip or criticize unfairly or speak unkindly, that will rot me from the inside out and make me old before my time.

30.  Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

The poet Samuel Ullman wrote in his poem "Youth" that "Nobody grows old merely by a number of years.  We grow old by deserting our ideals."  When I started college, I was a musical theatre major.  For various reasons, I gave up my dream and in my sophomore year, I switched to "business".  I gave up on my dream, and in the ensuing years, my soul aged exponentially more than my body.  Ten years later, I had the opportunity to return to theatre, and I took it.  Life became new and my heart re-opened to the spiritual.  I became 'young' again.

What keeps you 'young' and excited about life?

  1. Interestingly I wrote about Youthful Zest today. I believe that to feel young and excited about life, we must ask this question every 15-30 days to ourselves, "When was the last time, I did something for the first time?" And when you do that, you will be inspired to explore and enjoy and come out of your comfort zones. Glad that you rediscovered your younger self again, LuAnn :) ♥

  2. Well, I put my tomato frames out the right way up for the first time today. (Last year, I put them out upside down and didn't know it until my FIL pointed it out. But he was gracious and said the plants were so big by the time we got the frames that I could not have done it any other way.)

  3. Wonderful to have that "youth" back again, isn't it? Writing, fly fishing, yoga, tai chi, travel all help me stay youthful. Simply appreciating each day, new face and friend I encounter makes me smile, and that works, too!

    1. It sure does, Dean! I took some Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes some years ago and enjoyed them immensely!

  4. Again we both wrote about the same word! I agree, kindness keeps us young deep in the soul.

  5. That is why I continue my music. With it, I can celebrate my Lord and satisfy my urge to create.

  6. Very inspiring reading your story about returning to the theater. Good for you!! For me, learning food photography is keeping me young. It's such a different world than anything else I've ever learned. I never would have imagined myself doing this sort of thing, but I do, and I'm the happiest when I am photographing or setting up and staging things for a photo. I love the creative process.
