#AtoZChallenge - All Gallow's Eve - E

"E IS FOR EXCERPT"

Here's a wee bit of actual draft from my WIP, All Gallow's Eve:

The kitchen.  What could she say about the kitchen?  It was an old farmhouse kitchen, complete with a wood-burning pot-bellied stove.  It could be used for heating, if the electricity went out for days in the winter due to the heavy ice storms that occurred with annoying regularity.  She could even cook on it if worse came to worse.  Not that she liked to cook very much.  There was just her, and getting all fancy in the kitchen for one just wasn’t J.C.’s thing.  Most nights it was something from the microwave and maybe some steamed veggies.  If there was a church or school staff potluck, she may pull out the cookbook or her grandmother’s recipe box, but that was about the extent of her creativity in the kitchen.

Yeah, that's pretty much me right there.  Except I usually cook for the five of us (hubby, DS1, DS2 and DD).  I even have an audience most nights: up to 5 cats and 5 dogs.

  2. Even if it was a kitchen for one, it sounds like a perfect country kitchen...potbellied stove was the clincher. Thanks for the excerpt. I cook for two and have for quite a long time...our son is 42...when we all get together HE cooks for all...love that!

  3. Seems like it could be a bit of a crowded kitchen with the pets in there :)

  4. I'm not a cook. We eat out way too much. I can't believe you have 10 animals, LuAnn! My 2 dogs and 1 cat wear me out enough :). This excerpt made me think of my mom. She is the opposite of J.C. My mom cooks herself a huge fancy meal every night. It just amazes me.
