#AtoZChallenge - Maturity and Proverbs 31

Mature - fully developed in body or mind.

14.  She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

When you are young, your food is brought to you; when you mature, you go and get it.  Youth is the promise and possibility; maturity is the fulfillment and delivery of the promise.  Both need the other to function at optimum level.

15.  She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Many women are intimidated by the archetypal "Proverbs 31 Woman".  What we've got to remember is that this is a woman with the resources available to be the wife of a king.  She does not have to get up on a cold winter morning when she is sick, to get her children breakfast and make sure they get off to school.  This is not to say that her life will be all ease.  She will still be judged on the smooth running of the king's household.

In the comments, please share a time when you "got down to business".  Have a great day!

  1. You have shared wonderful proverb. This is so true- when we are young food is brought to us and when we are mature we have to gather it! Also a king's wife is far from the daily hustles of a common man's life. But she has bigger responsibilities, she goes through bigger troubles, she will be still judged on the smooth running of king's household! Thankyou for sharing these insightful things!

  3. I think, I got down to business pretty early in life. Being the eldest child, the responsibilities come early too! :)

    1. That is true, Shilpa. Now, I'm thinking what a rough time I gave my brother (who was the oldest)! My mother told us that when I was young and "on the loose", my brother used to climb into the playpen to get away from me! *lol*

  4. I believe we "get down to it" every day...just some days seem more so than others. Each day is a new opportunity to be youthful and mature. Last year one of my daughter's turned 21 and this is what I wrote:

    Coming of Age:
You are no more of an adult today than you were yesterday.
You are no less a child either.

Remember this and greet each day
    with all that you are

And know that life is ready for your best.

I think this fits your post today. thanks for letting me share.

  5. Lu Ann, I've been getting down to business since I was a kid growing up on a farm and had to work in the fields, garden, and kitchen as well. I don't seem to be able to turn it off now, even though I'm supposed to be retired. :D
