Clairvoyant and Present Danger by Lena Gregory - #review #giveaway

Whoever said that dead men tell no tales has never met Cass Donnovan…

Cass has always relied on her abilities to guide her, but after communications with a ghost land her in the middle of a murder investigation, she has to wonder if her gifts are really more a curse.

Cass knows she is meant to help track down the killer–much to the chagrin of local law enforcement–when the apparition leads her to a dead body on the beach near her psychic shop, Mystical Musings. But the police are not the only ones who wish Cass would stick to reading palms. Someone is trying to scare her off, and it will take all her powers of premonition to catch the killer before Cass herself becomes the next victim…

MY REVIEW

I found Clairvoyant and Present Danger by Lena Gregory to be a very intriguing book, on a couple of levels.  To begin, the mystery was very engaging, holding my interest from first page to last.  Then there was the way Cass approached her psychic practice and shop.

Many psychics, palm readers, etc., go the 'I have a power' route, whether they do or not.  Cass is not like that.  She admits to not feeling like she is truly 'psychic', but she does have at least two  superpowers - observation and intuition.  Couple that with her training in astrology, palmistry, etc., and she has a powerful combination of abilities and services to offer her clients.

Then comes the day where she sees a 'ghost'.  Actually she's not sure what she has seen, and is really unsure about following it, but she's adventurous and has her  Leonberger dog with her, so off they go to the beach.  Leonbergers average from 90 - 160 pounds, so I'd feel safe with a dog that size too!  The apparition vanishes over a small hill of sand.  The dog investigates, so Cass investigates and there partially buried in the sand is a corpse.  It's been there for a while, so, yeah ... it's not in the best of condition.

She's kind of rattled (who wouldn't be?), and even more so when talk around town has it that an actual ghost led her to the body.  She really doesn't want the notoriety, but has to admit it has brought more customers into her shop.  And since she's expanding her space to the upstairs of her building, more customers = more income = WAHOO!

In a seemingly unrelated part of the story, a man comes in and asks her to find a woman who is missing.  Cass agrees to look into it, although she tells him she does not hold out a lot of hope for locating the woman.  Then, *BAM*, across the street from her shop in a gallery, is a drawing of the (female) ghost that she followed out to the beach.  She goes back the next day and asks the proprietor where the drawing went, but the artist does not want to show it.  (Things that make you say *hmmm*).

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, especially those with a little supernatural mojo, this book should be on your shelf.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Lena Gregory lives in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island with her husband and three children.

When she was growing up, she spent many lazy afternoons on the beach, in the yard, anywhere she could find to curl up with a good book. She loves reading as much now as she did then, but she now enjoys the added pleasure of creating her own stories.
