Bile, Bourbon and Bruce
Lovely combination you say? Thank you, I thought so too.
Bile
I wasn't originally going to put this in the post, but I saw a YouTube video yesterday, entitled "The Homeless Read Mean Tweets", frankly it pissed me off, and my gorge rose. Some people, with more dollars than sense, no doubt, had tweeted horribly mean things about the homeless. One mentioned she was 'sipping her latte when she saw a female hobo across the street' and that the sight made her 'want to vomit'; another wondered if 'home is where the heart his, were home-less people heart-less". I'm still pretty tweeked about it.
Bourbon
Kentucky produced up to 95% of the bourbon produced in the world. Some even say that bourbon was 'invented' here. Others (strangely enough, a historian from Louisville) propose that it was named after Bourbon street in New Orleans. Guess which side I'm on in that particular feud?
There's even a "Bourbon Trail", with nine distinct distilleries on the tour. You pick up a passport at the first distillery you visit, get it stamped when you visit each location and at the end of the tour, you get a free teeshirt. One place even lets you put your own wax seal on a bottle to purchase and take home.
Bourbon whiskey will be making at least one appearance in All Gallow's Eve.
Bruce
Who is Bruce and what does he have to do with bile, bourbon and/or All Gallow's Eve? Well, now, let your gorge settle down and sit on a stump in the yard. We'll crack open a bottle of bourbon, (or have a cup of tea) and I'll tell ya.
Bruce McCoy is the male half of my main duo. Physically I know he is tall and has brown hair. His family are multi-generational residents of the county (as most of the families are). He works for the State Police and after yesterday, I'm thinking he is a former (minor) UK Men's Basketball Team member. (Hey! Basketball is another "B" that's talked about A LOT in Kentucky.)
Bruce enters the picture when he is called out to the female MC's farm, after she experiences an episode of vandalism. He has charge of the investigation of the incident at the school, after it is determined that it is a murder. Bruce offers some self-defense classes at the high school as part of the co-ordinated effort to help the students in dealing with what has happened.
The high school's female principal sees Bruce as possible date material and for whatever reason, sees J.C. as a rival for Bruce's affections. While it is true that Bruce and J.C. wind up not-really-working-together on the investigation, it is true that they spend time together or one reason or another. I haven't really decided if it's going to be a 'relationship' or not.

Anyway, that's it for today. Click the sunflower A to Z graphic at the top of the post to visit other participants (there's a total of 1.857, so feel free to take a couple of days - *lol*)!
What a mixture! Bourbon was the family name of the old kings of France, hence the tribute to them in New Orleans. It's pronounced differently of course ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy AtoZing, LuAnn!
Jemima
Mai oui, Madame Jemima! I never though of that connection to New Orleans. Makes sense! And it was just going to be Bourbon and Bruce...but then...Oh well. :O)
DeleteThe tweets about homeless are really in bad taste. People can be so insensitive on Social Media. I'd love to go on a Bourbon Trail, sometimes. Loving your posts, LuAnn :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe one day we can give each other tours of our localities! :O)
DeleteWhy would anything think such horrible things about the homeless, let alone Tweet them? Just think people - but for the Grace of God, there go I.
ReplyDeleteI swear I answered this yesterday and today it's gone! *sigh* Anyway, I think "Amen" covers it pretty well, my friend.
DeleteI hate how social media has created an avenue for people to say things they would never say in their "real lives."
ReplyDeleteIt is true, TaMara. The things people will do or say when they think they will not have to be confronted are astounding. Let's hope for a better way.
DeleteWe have similar trails for whiskey in Scotland - I only managed two distilleries in one holiday. I don't think there's a free t-shirt, though, just enough tots of whiskey to mean that there has to be a designated driver! :)

Well, if you come here to Kentucky's Bourbon Trail, Sophie, I offer my designated driver capabilities for you. :O)
DeleteTweeting nasty things about homeless people makes me angry and sad. The first Sunday of every month, i go help teach Sunday school at the church a local pastor shepherds for homeless people. They meet outdoors or under the bridge, right where the homeless are. There's no reason to be nasty about them, they need the same love and compassion we all need, and sometimes just a helping hand to get off the streets and into a better life.
ReplyDeleteYour work-in-progress sounds fascinating!
What a love work you do on those Sundays, Mimi. We all have God's mercy available to us, and it is a pity when we cannot show each other the same tlc.
DeleteThat is so sad what that lady tweeted about the homeless. She should be grateful she is not on the streets and try to help those that are unfortunate that are on the streets.
ReplyDeletebetty
I think such tweets (and the people that make them) come from a 'holier-than-thou' attitude and there are few things that rile me more. I used to drive to work weekend mornings in Ft Worth, TX, and see the same guy sitting on the ground outside a government building week after week. I had usually stopped and gotten something for breakfast for myself (and maybe the office). Once or twice, I got something for him too. I think he was stunned that someone would do that.
DeleteWhy would anyone treat so badly the destitute...leave alone tweet about them in bad taste.
ReplyDeleteToo many people act before then think, Bhavya. Truly sad. Thanks for your #atozchallenge visit!
