Today's Question:

What's the one luxury you can't live without?

Being either both students or living on one income for so long, I've learned that there is nothing money can buy that I can't live without.  Having said that, there are some things I'd rather not live without unless I had to.  But then, I wouldn't necessarily call them luxuries (tp, microwaveable food).

Probably the closest I could come on this would be these little dark chocolate sea salt caramel candies hubby brings home every once in a while from the store.  I used to get them all to myself, but now my oldest son, 17, has developed a 'taste' for them.  Rats!

I'd like to be like my mother-in-law who raised h-e-double-toothpicks at the airport once because the car rental place did not have the Cadillac she had reserved.  She didn't want the Oldsmobile.  She said she could only drive a Cadillac.  Must be nice, eh?

Do you write?  Are you insecure about it?  Click the button above and get more encouragement that you can shake a pen and some looseleaf paper at!

Someone just needs to tie me to the chair and not let me eat, drink or smoke (yeah, I know it's a bad habit) until I've written something.  I don't know if it's more my fear or my tendency to procrastinate.

And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Write Tribe

I lost my early childhood friends when we moved from Cumberland, MD, to Salt Lake City, UT, when I was 9.

I lost my best friend in college because of some crazy people I thought might try to harm me and my family and friends.  So I stopped contacting my friends and family.  I know, not incredibly bright.

I lost my theatre friends when I moved to Fort Worth, TX, with my husband and then 9 month old son (he's now 17 years old).

Now my step-mother-in-law (my father-in-law's second wife), thinks I'm strange because I don't have one or more female friends with whom to pal around.  I'm a mother with three growing children, a beginning farmer and a writer.  What the heck is 'time' anyway?  Let alone time to run around.

I will be a better friend than I have been.

  1. Hi, LuAnn,

So many things eat into the time we want to set aside for writing. I've found I just have to sit down and do it. Otherwise nothing gets done.

The luxury I can't live without is perfume. I'd tag on the internet, but it's more a necessity than a luxury. Thanks for signing up for the blogfest.

  2. How about we duct tape you to the chair?
I moved around a lot when I was young (military brat) so I lost contact with a lot of friends. The ones I have now (and the few I retained) I really work at to keep the friendship going.

    1. OK, Alex. But only if it's one of those pretty duct tapes (like pink camo) or Hello Kitty. :p

  3. Those chocolates sound so mouthwateringly delish!

I've found that sometimes I have to give in to the food tempations while I'm writing otherwise that's all I think about.

  5. You know LuAnn there was a time when I used to think why i didn't have many friends..But frankly I don't have the time to invest on friendships that will at the end of the day hurt me...I cannot pretend to be someone else when behind closed doors and be someone else outside and if friends can't accept that I don't need them.. I guess I'm happier without such friends :)

  7. It is easy to get distracted. I know if I am not careful this little laptop and the blogosphere can keep me from reading, cooking, cleaning..you get the picture. Oh lord now I want some of those sea salt caramel chocolate balls. Yikes.

    1. I hear you, Kimba. I once heard 'family' defined as "those people who are in the same room as your computer at home". :p I may have to post a picture of those candies for "Teaser Tuesday"!

  8. Hi Luann; It is difficult to maintain friendships when you move around a lot and also when you're so busy. I'm sure there will come a time when you'll be able to pursue these relationships more. Thanks for participating in the Write Tribe Blog Carnival. ☺

    1. True. If moving has been one of the problems, then things are looking up. Last summer we bought my husband's paternal grandparents' old home and h-e-double-toothpicks will freeze over before I move again. :O) Thanks for hosting the WTBC!

  9. A writer rarely has any free time to socialize and go coffee drinking with friends :) A mother and a writer is a potent combination, best of luck with your writing.

  10. I have a very small circle of friends. I used to wish it was different but these are my 3-in-the-morning people and I wouldn't have it any other way!

  11. Writers are friends with their readers; as they keep writing for them and the readers keep coming back.
You are too busy but even family can be the best friends sometimes.
