With a well-placed paw on a keyboard or a pointed stare, Kathleen’s two cats, Hercules and Owen, have helped her to solve cases in the past—so she has learned to trust their instincts. But she will need to rely on them more than ever when a twenty-year-old scandal leads to murder…
The arrival of the Janes brothers has the little town of Mayville Heights buzzing. Everyone of a certain age remembers when Victor had an affair with Leo’s wife, who then died in a car accident.
Now it seems the brothers are trying to reconcile, until Kathleen finds Leo dead. The police set their sights on Leo’s son and Kathleen’s good friend Simon, who doesn’t have much of an alibi. To prove her friend innocent, Kathleen will have to dig deep into the town’s history—and into her sardine cracker supply, because Owen and Hercules don’t work for free…

MY REVIEW
I love a good novel where human and feline characters interact in more than a pet, pet, meow, meow, feed, feed kind of way. What I mean by that is that the skins and the furs are more involved in each others' lives than a casual "oh, I have a cat" way.
Like with Kathleen, and Hercules and Owen. She's a librarian who happens across the odd murder mystery; they are two felines who happen to be very intuitive at solving such mysteries. Not that she can admit that to anyone, of course. If it got out that she talked to Herc and Owen, let alone 'consulted' with them on the cases that cross her path, someone would be cuing up the 'crazy cat lady mood music' before you could say, "Meow".
You see, the Janes family has had some strained relations going back a generation. One brother (Victor) had an affair with the other brother's (Leo's) wife, who then died. That would definitely put a damper on conversation at the family reunions. But the Janes have solved that - kind of - by not getting together for decades. Just as it looks like there's a chance for a reconciliation between brothers, Leo is found dead. And not from natural causes.
As the storyline gets more involved (aka as Kathleen starts investigating to clear a friend who is a main suspect), she uncovers some things that some people would rather not have brought to light. And there's a fairly good chance that at least one of those people will try to kill her. (Just thinking - Kathleen must not read the cozy mysteries in her own library, or she would know that! *LOL*)
A Tale of Two Kitties is a wonderful story, with memorable characters - feline and human. Even the 'bad' person or persons are written well! And I just have to see if any man who wants into Kathleen's life has to pass inspection by Hercules and Owen; I can't wait to find out!
