Murder Most Finicky by Liz Mugavero - #review #giveaway

The dog days of summer have arrived in the small town of Frog Ledge, Connecticut, and business is booming for Kristan “Stan” Connor. Her Pawsitively Organic pet food has even caught the attention of celebrity pastry chef Sheldon Allyn, who helps Stan open a fancy pet pastry shop in Frog Ledge. A partnership is born, and Sheldon invites Stan to Newport, Rhode Island, for an appreciation weekend he’s hosting for all his independent chefs. But the gourmet getaway turns sour when one of the chefs turns up dead, and a second one goes missing…

As Stan tries to figure out who had a recipe for murder, the pool of suspects expands. And if she can’t sniff out the culprit soon, this killer may just serve up a second helping of murder…

Includes Gourmet Pet Food Recipes!

MY REVIEW

It had been far too long since I've reviewed a book by Liz Mugavero.  Seriously, the last was A Biscuit, A Casket, the second in the "Pawsitively Organic Mystery Series".

So Sheldon is still quirky, but then what celebrity chef isn't?  Even so, I'd be a little (or a lot!) leery of a 'chef appreciation weekend' that requires a blindfolded ride in a van.  Then, as it turns out, the weekend is as much about helping Sheldon secure investors for his latest venture.  And, if that were not enough, the venue has to be changed because one of the chefs did not make the ride up with the rest.  There's a reason for that, though...he's dead.  At the venue.

It's hard enough for Stan to take care of the furry citizens of Frog Ledge and investigate the odd murder on her home turf, and this time she's really out of her comfort zone!  Luckily, she has a good back-up team, including her boyfriend Jack and his local LEO sister.  It was really nice to see how the relationship between those two women has progressed.  At my first visit to Frog Ledge, the two did not really get along all that well.  That seems to be changing, which is good news for Stan and Jack's relationship.  It helps when a family are all on the same page about one of their member's love matches.

My family have a lot of furry members, and I look forward to using our cats and dogs as guinea pigs.  (Oh yes, I did just go there! *lol*)  Just from reading the ingredients, they look good enough for people or animals to eat.  And while I don't normally go out of my way for organic, I do appreciate it when I can find it and believe in giving my family (furry or not) the best fuel for their bodies.

Murder Most Finicky is a fine addition to the Pawsitively Organic Mystery Series!  I don't know if I'm more excited to re/read the entire series or make some of the treats for my cats and dogs!  Maybe I'll do both and make a weekend of it!  (Just, hopefully, without the dead body on the patio.) ;)

MEET THE AUTHOR

Liz Mugavero has been writing stories since she could hold a pen. Before that, she would tell them to anyone who would listen (not many at the time). After deciding early on she would write books for a living, she practiced by writing bad, angst-filled poems, short stories and even a storyline for a soap opera–all by age 15. She never wavered from her goals despite all the usual questions including, “So are you going to be an English teacher with that degree in English?” or, “That writing thing sounds nice, but how are you REALLY going to make a living?”

She went on to get a master’s in writing and publishing and spent time in journalism, PR, and presently, corporate communications. And she’s confident this writing thing IS the way to make a living.

Aside from writing, she loves animals (has a houseful), the beach, reading other writers’ masterpieces and Starbucks coffee.
